Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović has spoken out regarding the ban on entry into the Republic of Croatia to Bosnian and Herzegovina journalist Avdo Avdić.

“Freedom of the media and the safe work of journalists are the foundation of every democratic society. Journalists must have the freedom to professionally, truthfully and responsibly perform their work without limiting freedom of movement, fear of threats, discrimination or other obstacles. Freedom of the media is of crucial importance for journalists and all media employees, as well as for every democratic state, because the degree of democracy of a society is assessed on the basis of media freedom,” said Bećirović, according to a statement from his Cabinet.

All regional cooperation processes foresee respect for journalistic principles and freedom of movement, Bećirović emphasized and added that with this in mind, and advocating for European principles and values, he believes that denying journalistic rights and freedoms to Avdo Avdić is unacceptable.
