Belgrade: Street Installation for 33 Years since the Beginning of the Siege of Sarajevo

Activists of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights marked 33 years since the beginning of the siege of Sarajevo with a street installation in Belgrade. The idea of the installation is for the citizens of Belgrade to at least try to put themselves in the shoes of the citizens of Sarajevo, in order to at least somewhat understand what life looked like during the 1.425 days of the siege.

A red thread 1.425 steps long begins just behind Republic Square and ends in front of the plateau of the Faculty of Philosophy. At both ends there are mirrors. After passing that route, passersby will come to a mirror with a drawn target, explains Nevena Rudinac, coordinator of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights in Serbia.

The idea is for the citizens of Belgrade to see themselves, even for a moment, as a potential target, but also to gain some basic knowledge because the siege of Sarajevo is not a topic in Belgrade.
