Chairman of B&H Presidency Dragan Covic presented application of our country for EU membership. The ceremony of handing the application of B&H for membership in the European Union to Dutch Presidency of the Council of the European Union was held in the building of EU Council in Brussels.
Covic handed over the application to the Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Bert Koenders, since this country chairs the European Union. Submission of applications for membership in the EU is just another step in the long way of our country towards full membership in the EU.
Covic said that it makes a special pleasure that on behalf of the citizens of B&H, its constituent peoples and all citizens he can say that B&H done everything in order to submit a credible application for EU membership.
Covic emphasized that he is hoping for the positive response of the EU, in order for our country to get the status of candidate for EU membership next year.
Covic has announced that this year will be a year of great reforms in B&H and expressed the hope that B&H will catch up with its neighbors on its path towards the EU.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Bert Koenders emphasized the fact that B&H is on its path of reforms, which is important for all of its citizens. He welcomed the adoption of the Reform Agenda and the Action Plan and expressed hope that it will keep a positive reform course. The work on a Reform Agenda is essential for the EU to consider the application of our country to join the EU, stated Koenders.
Koenders said that the Presidency of the EU will do everything for the application to be accepted.
Federica Mogherini, the European Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, stated that the EU is counting on B&H and it will help our country in its way.
Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, welcomed the adoption of the coordination mechanism, adding that B&H citizens deserve membership in the EU.
