At the 64th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the most prestigious mathematical competition in the world held from July 3 to 13 in Chiba, Japan, the Olympic team of Bosnia and Herzegovina achieved exceptional success by winning one silver, four bronze medals and one honorable mention. The Olympic team included: Vuk Janković, Andrej Krčmar, Benjamin Mujkić, Ervin Macić, Mirnes Fehrić and Harun Alibegović.
The silver medal was won by Andrej Krčmar, a student of the 1st grade of JU “Gimnazija”, Banja Luka. Bronze medals were won by Vuk Janković, a student in the 9th grade of JU Elementary School “Vuk Karadžić” – Trebinje, Benjamin Mujkić, a student in the 2nd grade of the JU Second Gymnasium Sarajevo, Ervin Macić, a student in the IVth grade of the JU Second Gymnasium Sarajevo and Mirnes Fehrić, a student in the IVth grade of the JU Second Gymnasium Sarajevo.
Honorable mention was won by Harun Alibegović, a third grade student at Richmond Park International High School Sarajevo. The leaders of the Olympic team were Adisa Bolić and Goran Janković.
The team was welcomed by the Minister of Education of the Sarajevo Canton, Naida Hota-Muminović, and the director of the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education, Seanada Salihović, together with parents and a representative of the Association of Mathematicians of the Sarajevo Canton, reported the CS Protocol and Press Service.
“Our students also showed exceptional knowledge at this Olympiad. In the competition of 112 countries, Bosnia and Herzegovina won 36th place, the same team result as the previous year and the best in the last 20 years. At this year’s Mathematical Olympiads, our students won a total of 17 Olympic medals. Nine students from Sarajevo Canton won 11 medals. The Government of Sarajevo Canton has provided financial support for the preparations of our students for going to the Olympics,” Minister Hota-Muminović pointed out.
The CS Mathematicians Association is dedicated to working with our most excellent competitors. Congratulations to our Olympians, their families, teachers, mentors, schools and friends, as well as the leaders of the Bosnia and Herzegovina team, were sent by the Ministry of Education of the CS, according to the statement.
