BHRT’s Account may be blocked at the End of the Month

The public radio and television service of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the most difficult financial and operational situation since its establishment.

Despite many years of warnings and appeals to the competent institutions, a systemic solution to the financing of the state public service has not been established. As a consequence, BHRT faces a serious threat of account blocking and possible court proceedings that may lead to confiscation of assets.

We want to clearly emphasize that this is not just a matter of the functioning of one media. The state network of transmitters and repeaters managed by BHRT represents a key part of the communication infrastructure of Bosnia and Herzegovina and enables the transmission of signals and data throughout the country, including remote and mountainous areas where there is no alternative communication network.

Systems that are important for the security of the state and citizens also function through this infrastructure, including institutions and systems such as:

Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, IDDEEA – Agency for Identification Documents, Records and Data Exchange of BiH, State Agency for Investigation and Protection (SIPA), Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, Agency for Provision of Services in Air Navigation of BiH (BHANSA), Border Police of BiH, as well as civil protection systems of the Federation of BiH, cantons and municipalities.

Also, this infrastructure is used by three telecommunications operators in Bosnia and Herzegovina, cable operators, internet providers, private and public radio stations, as well as private and public television.

According to official notifications received by BHRT, at the end of February 2026, there is a real possibility of blocking BHRT’s account, as well as initiating further legal proceedings.

BHRT informed the competent state institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, police and security agencies about all relevant facts and potential security implications. In case of loss of functionality of the transmission infrastructure, direct negative consequences would, among other things, have regular and crisis communication systems, public information systems in emergency situations and overall communication stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Our goal is not to create panic, but to responsibly warn the public and institutions about the seriousness of the situation.

BHRT will continue to work as professionally and responsibly as possible in the interest of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it is clear that without an urgent financing solution there is a real risk to the functioning of the state communication infrastructure.

We call on the competent institutions to take urgent measures to protect the continuity of the work of this infrastructure, which is important for the functioning of the state and the safety of all citizens.
