BiH Agency for Investigation and Protection elects new Director

All seven applications received for the election of the director of the Agency for Investigation and Protection (SIPA) BiH are timely and complete and these candidates will participate in the further procedure, said the Senior President of the Independent Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Enes Obralija.

This was determined after the Board reviewed the applications received for the competition today in Sarajevo, and Obralija pointed out that he cannot reveal the names of the candidates.

He explained that the Board is following an accelerated procedure and that it will directly contact the police stations that keep records of convictions and non-convictions in order to obtain information for candidates for the new SIPA director.

Obralija reminded that according to the Law on Administrative Procedure, the deadline for submitting this information is 30 days, and expressed his belief that it will be received before that deadline.

Today, the independent board considered information from SIPA regarding the deputy director of this agency, Zoran Galić, who, according to the earlier statements of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, fled to Croatia to avoid arrest.

“The public is very interested in it. We received the SIPA information about Galić an hour or two before the beginning of the session of the Independent Board, and there was only a short time for all Board members to familiarize themselves with the materials,” Obralija said.

According to him, the Board nevertheless considered the information and concluded that, with the aim of taking further measures and actions within its jurisdiction, it should request information from the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in order to proceed further in connection with this case.

“As soon as we receive the information from the Prosecutor’s Office, I will schedule a session and the Independent Board will sit and make an appropriate conclusion,” said Obralija.

He stated that the Independent Committee stated today that the Parliamentary Assembly should start the procedure for the election and appointment of the second deputy president of this parliamentary body, because the previous deputy Uroš Pena has passed away.
