The Agency for the Sava River Water Area has issued an emergency notice forecasting an increase in the water level in the entire water area of the Sava River in the Federation of BiH, especially in the Una and Sana river basins, the Vrbas basin as well as the Fojnica river basin.

It is expected to reach the level of notification about possible floods at hydrological stations in the water area of the Sava River in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Floodwaters where there may be a significant increase in water levels in this period are in the area of the Korana and Glina basins in BiH, Vrbas and the Fojnica River.

An extraordinary hydrological situation is forecast for the next three days, especially in the area of the Una and Sana, Korana and Glina river basins and the Vrbas and Fojnica river basins.

The notification on the forecast of an extraordinary hydrological situation refers to the area of the municipalities in the Una-Sana Canton, and the municipalities of Jajce and Fojnica.

“We suggest the competent institutions to monitor the situation on the ground and act in accordance with their authority, and we recommend increased caution to the services that carry out measures and activities for the protection and rescue of people and material goods,” the agency states.

Competent civil protection services should warn the population living in areas along rivers that do not have built protective water structures, that it is dangerous to approach the banks due to the possible increase in the depth and speed of the water in the rivers, and to give them a timely notification with instructions and guidelines , on the basis of which the population would be able (before the eventual occurrence of floods) to implement self-protection measures in order to reduce and prevent possible damages from the harmful effects of floods on them and their material possessions.
