From May 23 to 25, 2024, the non-resident ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Lebanon, based in Amman, Slavko Matanović, paid his first official visit to the Republic of Lebanon, where he met with several officials of the host country.
Ambassador Matanović met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Abdallah Bou Habib. They discussed the challenges facing Lebanon due to the failure to elect a president, which complicates the formal process of submitting credentials.
Bilateral relations were discussed, and one of the focuses of the conversation was the progress in the negotiations on the Readmission Agreement, which was initiated by the BiH Presidency. This agreement is crucial for managing migration flows between the two countries and for ensuring the legal and safe return of persons residing without proper permits.
Minister Bou Habib expressed his understanding of this problem and the efforts of Bosnia and Herzegovina. parties to finalize this agreement, emphasizing the importance of bilateral cooperation in migration management.
During his visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon, Ambassador Matanović also had meetings with lower-ranking officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lebanon, with whom he discussed in more detail the cooperation between the two ministries and other initiatives.
Ambassador Matanović also met with the Lebanese Minister of Economy, Amin Salam. They discussed the potential for economic investments and joint projects, especially in the energy, infrastructure and tourism sectors. Minister Salam showed great interest in investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina and proposed several initiatives to strengthen economic cooperation.
During his visit to Lebanon, Ambassador Matanović met in separate meetings with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Lebanon Mohamed Choucair.
