The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, Stasa Kosarac, will today sign the Operational Agreement for the implementation of the project “New activities to support the phytosanitary sector in BiH with the aim of harmonizing with EU standards – Fito-BiH” in the Italian city of Bari.
This project represents the assistance of the Italian Government to the phytosanitary sector in BiH by implementing activities in accordance with the EU integration process and the international phytosanitary standard, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations announced in the Council of Ministers.
The goal of the project, which was started in June 2019, is to contribute to the strengthening of the phytosanitary system in BiH and its gradual harmonization with the legal legacy of the EU, as well as the harmonization of technical and organizational skills and competences of the bodies responsible for phytosanitary diagnosis, phytosanitary control and inspection, i.e. laboratories and inspection services with EU standards.
The value of the project is around 1.2 million euros, and it is financed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy in cooperation with the Italian Agency for Cooperation and Development.
The project is implemented by the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies – Mediterranean Agronomic Institute in Bari together with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations, the Plant Health Protection Administration of BiH and partners from Italy and BiH.
The direct beneficiaries of the project are the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Republika Srpska, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Water Management and Forestry, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Brcko District Government, the Agricultural Institute of the Republic of Srpska, the Phytosanitary Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture in Banja Luka, the Federal Institute for Agriculture, the Federal Agro-Mediterranean Institute.
Beneficiaries of the project are the Administration for Inspection Affairs of Republika Srpska, the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs and the Brcko District Government Inspectorate.
