BiH appoints new Head of Mission to the EU

The current head of the European Union Department at the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emina Merdan, will be the new BiH’s Head of Mission to the EU.

This information was confirmed to Klix.ba news website by the Head of EU Delegation to BiH Lars Gunnar Wigemark.

“According to the information we received, a decision was made to appoint Emina Merdan to the Head of the BiH Bureau in the EU. Of course there is a procedure where a formal agreement or a permit for BiH to appear in the EU will be required. According to the information I possess, there are no problems since the candidate is highly qualified and experienced in diplomacy, “Wigemark told Klix.

This decision was brought after the European Parliament’s rapporteur for BiH Cristian Dan Preda pointed out that there was no one in charge of this position for six months.

“This is a rather puzzling situation because one of the country’s main strategic goals is full membership in the European Union, which is also recognized in the recently adopted foreign policy strategy of BiH 2018-2023,” Preda stated earlier.
