On March 26, 2026, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković held a meeting in Washington with Nicholas Langworthy, a member of the Energy Committee of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States in the energy sector, as well as on current political and security developments in the country and the region. Minister Konaković informed Langworthy about increased activities by secessionist and lobbying groups, and organized attempts to spread disinformation portraying Muslims as a threat to Christians and their rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that these destabilizing activities are supported by harmful external influences and are intended to weaken both the country and the region, which makes continued support from international partners very important.

Special attention was given to the Southern Interconnection, a project that provides Bosnia and Herzegovina with access to the global LNG market and connects it to the terminals in the Adriatic. Minister Konaković stressed that this project is an important step toward reducing dependence on a single supply route and enabling long-term access to various sources of natural gas, including supplies from the United States. He said that continued support from the United States is crucial for the implementation of strategic projects, including the Southern Interconnection, and expressed gratitude for the U.S. role in strengthening stability and reform processes in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Minister Konaković informed Congressman Langworthy about further steps that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina are taking toward the implementation of the Southern Interconnection Project and other reform processes aimed at strengthening energy infrastructure, enhancing transparency, and aligning with European and transatlantic standards.

Langworthy emphasized the importance of energy projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina and confirmed support for their further development, stating that energy security, diversification, and regional stability are among the key priorities of the United States of America in its relations with the countries of the Western Balkans.
