On November 22nd, 2024, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Elmedin Konakovic, received the Ambassador of Japan to BiH, Masami Kinefuchi, during a farewell visit.
During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the excellent and friendly bilateral relations between BiH and Japan.
Minister Konakovic expressed his gratitude for the support and assistance Japan has provided to BiH over the years, particularly in the reform process, emphasizing the long-term developmental aid and numerous donations. He conveyed special thanks for Japan’s support in the adoption of the Resolution on the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide of 1995 at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in May of this year. He also invited Japanese officials to attend the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
Ambassador Kinefuchi emphasized that Japan will continue to support BiH. He noted that during his tenure, he visited many places in the country and highlighted the investment opportunities and potential for investors in BiH. He reflected on the significance of the visit by Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa to BiH in July this year to strengthen relations between the two countries and thanked Minister Konakovic for his hospitality.
The discussion also addressed the enhancement of economic relations, visa liberalization, contractual agreements, multilateral cooperation, and the World Expo 2025, which will take place next year in Japan.
At the end of the meeting, Minister Konakovic expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Kinefuchi for his active dedication and engagement during his tenure in BiH and wished him personal and professional success in the future.
