Food companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) are increasingly exporting, in the markets of the world and are also producing for famous world brands. The development of this branch of industry is best illustrated by concrete figures, i.e. export growth in relation to imports.
According to Tarik Kovac, expert associate for the projects of the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, the agro-food industry is one of those that recorded a significant deficit, but it has been significantly reduced in recent years.
“It is encouraging that in the last four years, exports of our agro-food products have grown much more than imports. Approximately, the coverage of imports by exports in the last 4 years has risen from 22 percent to 35 percent, which is an encouraging fact,” Kovac said at the Anuga trade fair in Cologne.
According to him, in the food sector, there is still plenty of room for branding of products, as well as for aggressive international promotion.
Six companies from BiH presented at the largest food fair in the world ANUGA FINE FOOD 2017, which was held from October 7th to 11th in the German city of Cologne.
At the joint stand of BiH, companies Klas (Sarajevo), Mladegs Pak (Prnjavor), Zeraa Agriculture Investment Management (Sarajevo), Herbos Nature (Sarajevo), Eurocompany 99 (Ljubuski) and Vita – Life (Visoko) presented their products.
The products of the companies that are presented at the fair are already on the shelves of shops in numerous international markets.
“A lot of these products are sold under other brands, that is, they are working for brands of other companies in Germany and the EU, so that they are used by consumers but are unrecognizable, but they have found their way to the customers,” Kovac said.
Mladen Pratljacic, from the company Mladegs Pak said he was satisfied with the fair and that they had made a lot of contacts.
He said that the products of this company can be found in countries like Croatia, Slovenia and Australia. In other countries, private brands work for well-known customers such as Lidl, Hofer, Interspar, etc.
