BiH Mountain Rescue Service rescues Two Turkish Citizens stuck in Snow on Mountain

Members of the Mountain Rescue Service (GSS) Prenj rescued two Turkish citizens who were stuck in the snow on Mount Prenj, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, today.

The effort to reach the cut-off Turkish citizens took an hour and a half and was made difficult due to the depth of the snow and the location.

“We have just taken over two Turkish citizens who took the wrong route using navigation from Sarajevo to Mostar. They were diverted via Konjic, towards Dabića poljana, or Prenj. There, their car stopped in the snow and could not turn back or go forward. They panicked a lot. They were terrified, because they did not know what to do or where they were. They trusted the navigation to take them along the shortest route, which is usually a big mistake, when the route is not checked,” Adis Karkelja from GSS Prenj told AA.

He added that the snow was more than 30 centimeters deep, which further complicated the rescue operation.

Their return from the aforementioned location is underway, and the GSS Prenj teams will take care of their vehicle, since they are unable to operate it in such terrain.

Prenj is a mountain range in the northwestern part of eastern Herzegovina with many peaks, the highest of which is Zelena glava (2,123 meters above sea level).

In the past, this mountain has been the site of several searches for missing mountaineers and accidents that ended tragically.
