BiH plans to realize the Project of Floating Solar Power Plants

Elektroprivreda BiH, electric utility company, plans to realize the project of floating solar power plants for which the Modrac lake is suitable, as well as the Sniježnica hydroaccumulation, Samir Selimović, executive director for production of Elektroprivreda BiH, announced at this year’s SET.

“We are aware that we have to move quickly in that direction. Thermal power plants cannot balance the power system. They are intended for the base system. You cannot turn off the thermal block during the day and turn it on at night. We are solving that problem with Hydroelectric Power Plants on the Neretva. Then there are Jablanica, Grabavica and Selakovac, which successfully meet the balancing requirements in our system, but we also provide this service for other users,” added Selimović, writes eKapija.

He points out that it is important to mention that Elektroprivreda BiH together with the EBRD is developing a project for Block 3 at the Tuzla TPP, which should be completed by the end of this year, as well as for its conversion to biomass for the production of “exclusively and only thermal of energy”.

“Until now, we have conducted pilot projects and tested the co-combustion of biomass and coal at all or almost all block units in TE Tuzla and TE Kakanj, so we worked with regimes of 5, 10, 15 and 20% biomass in co-combustion with coal. The question arises, is there enough biomass? The answer is – there is none. We are taking significant measures on the degraded surfaces of surface mines. We are already establishing biomass plantations, and we will also use other alternative fuels such as RDF. These are all plans that we are developing.”

He adds that Elektroprivreda BiH is currently developing a very large number of projects related to renewable sources.

“These are solar power plants that are in the stage of creating conceptual projects, several tenders have already been announced. We are planning them on degraded mining areas, where the conditions for obtaining documentation are much better, because this is our land as part of the EPBiH Concern. We want to use those areas as well and bring them to some final intention. In this case, it is solar energy production. We are going in the direction of purchasing projects of renewable sources,” concluded Selimović.
