Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović will participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, which will be attended by delegations of UN member states led by heads of state or government.

Chairman Bećirović will address the Future Summit on September 22, the UN General Assembly on September 25 and the UN Security Council at the open debate “Leadership for Peace” on September 26, 2024.

As part of the foreign policy activities at the UN headquarters, Chairman Bećirović will hold meetings with the UN Secretary General António Gutteres, the President of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang and the UN Under-Secretary and Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General for the Prevention of Genocide Alice Wairimu Nderita . Also, at the UN headquarters in New York, he will talk with numerous heads of state and prime ministers.

This is the first time that the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, in addition to a series of bilateral meetings with heads of state or government and participation in accompanying high-level gatherings, will have presentations at three key events that are being held at the UN this year: the UN General Assembly, the Summit future and a special thematic session of the UN Security Council dedicated to leadership for peace and security.

The UN High Level Week is a key event in global diplomacy during which world leaders, as well as senior officials of international organizations, discuss the most important global issues and challenges.

This year’s session of the UN General Assembly emphasizes the global responsibility for a sustainable and just world. The focus of this year’s 79th session of the UN General Assembly will be on addressing pressing global challenges, from climate change and health crises to military conflict resolution and sustainable development. Also, the importance of responsibility and inclusive dialogue and advocating for change will be emphasized in order to work on a brighter future for all humanity with joint capacities.
