BiH Presidency held an Extraordinary Session

At today’s session of the BiH Presidency, convened at the request of Presidency member Željka Cvijanović, the only item on the agenda was Kosovo’s application for membership in the Council of Europe.

Presidency member Denis Bećirović was in favor of Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, Željko Komšić abstained, while Željka Cvijanović voted against membership.

Cvijanović said at a press conference in East Sarajevo that she requested that the BiH Presidency make a statement on this issue “in view of the misuse of institutions, the Constitution and procedures” when it comes to decision-making.

She stated that she believes that there should be a negative vote at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on May 16 when it comes to Kosovo’s application, given that Bosnia and Herzegovina did not recognize independent Kosovo and the fact that on the political level “we have actors who behave that it is not like that”.

Cvijanović stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković could only present a neutral position during the vote on the application of Kosovo, considering that the members of the Presidency had different votes on it today.

“Given the different voting in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the minister cannot define positions on his own. When we have a diverse vote, there can be no other position, except neutral,” said Cvijanović at a press conference in East Sarajevo.
