The member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, reacted after a message from the Embassy of the United States of America regarding the announcement of a possible review of the American role in the international mission in our country.
“We absolutely support the efforts of the American administration aimed at reaffirming the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We are grateful to the officials of the United States of America for their efforts to affirm local solutions, the internal dialogue of the constituent nations and the full responsibility of democratically elected institutions at all levels of government in Bosnia and Herzegovina,” she stated.
She added that Republika Srpska fully agrees with such an approach.
“At the same time, it is difficult to understand the efforts of individual members of the so-called Peace Implementation Council to maintain BiH, more than 30 years after the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement, in the status of the last colony in Europe.
We believe that the role of high representatives must be returned to Annex 10 of the Dayton Agreement, until it is completely abolished, and the so-called ‘Bonn powers’, which represent an obstacle to internal dialogue and one of the key sources of political crises in BiH, should be immediately removed from the political life of BiH”, he believes. Cvijanović with an additional message:
“It is high time that BiH ceases to be an experiment in international governance and becomes a state where decisions are made exclusively by democratically elected representatives of the constituent nations at all levels of government, in accordance with the Constitution defined in the framework of the Dayton Agreement”.
It should be noted that the two-day session of the PIC ended without success, and several hours of negotiations and the formation of two opposing blocs resulted in the postponement of the decision on Christian Schmidt’s successor until the end of this month.
The American Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina sent a rather harsh message in which, among other things, it said:
“The European indecision and the PIC’s abandonment of its duty towards Bosnia and Herzegovina force the United States of America to reconsider its role in the current international presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina”.
