Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Zeljko Komsic attended the Central Celebration of the Independence Day of BiH in Austria and on that occasion addressed the gathered BiH diaspora in that country.
Komsic reminded that the citizens of BiH organized a referendum on the independence of the Republic of BiH in the Socialist Republic of BiH thirty-one years ago, due to the collapse of the former state.
“The referendum was preceded by numerous political events, both on the international and domestic level. And while the separatists tried to create a political and legal basis for separatism through illegal and legally null plebiscites, forces loyal to the Republic tried to gain support on the international level for the organization of the referendum. They succeeded in that, so the referendum was called based on the findings of the Badinter Commission,” said Komsic.
He also reminded that in the referendum on independence, the citizens of BiH chose the path of independence by a large majority of votes, exercising their democratic right.
“Immediately after the announcement of the results, Chetnik separatists organized through paramilitary formations began obstructing normal and everyday life in the capital of BiH, and soon they were joined by the Yugoslav People’s Army, and the para-institutions formed by the division of the security agencies of the Republic of BiH,” he pointed out.
Komsic also reminded how the separatist forces, which are much better armed together with the JNA, seeing that they cannot prevent the independence of BiH, which was already officially recognized by the leading countries of the world at the beginning of April, are launching an armed aggression against the Republic of BiH.
“That aggression began with mass crimes in Eastern Bosnia, with the attempt to seize the Presidency of BiH at the beginning of May 1992, and with a series of massacres against the civilian population in cities throughout BiH. However, our country was admitted to the United Nations (UN) on May 22nd. That act put an end to the issue of international recognition of BiH“, reminded Komsic.
The member of the BiH Presidency said that the forces that attacked BiH at that time could never accept independence and sovereignty.
“They will continue to attack. We can defend ourselves only if we defend ourselves with the courage with which we defended ourselves in the period from 1992 to 1995. In this fight, we can and must first rely on ourselves. If we hope for the help of others and if we are passive, we ourselves will call into question the survival of BiH. I am convinced that we will not be passive and that we will not sit idly by and wait for the situation to unfold,” explained Komsic, Klix.ba reports.
