Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milanko Kajganić presented the work of the Special Department for War Crimes (PORZ), during almost two decades of work and existence at the EU conference in Ljubljana, dedicated to the fight against genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

Among other things, it was pointed out that the PORZ of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH brought indictments for serious violations of international humanitarian law against more than 1,000 individually accused persons, as well as that based on these indictments, more than 320 defendants, including six women, more than 3,450 years of prison sentences were imposed, which speaks of the contribution of prosecutors and the staff of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH in the fight against impunity.

Testimonies of more than 13,000 witnesses were heard in the courtrooms, whose testimony proved the responsibility of the accused for war crimes in all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Regional and international cooperation, which is intensively carried out by this prosecutor’s office, was highlighted, as well as the fact that international warrants were issued for dozens of suspects and accused persons, and in the past almost 20 years, suspects have been extradited to BiH from countries around the world, including EU countries, as well as overseas countries.

Chief Prosecutor Kajganić announced the continuation of the fight against impunity for war crimes, in cooperation with the partner prosecutor’s office at the IRCMT, along with instruments of regional and international cooperation, announced the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH.
