The Bosnia and Herzegovina team made a historic success at the 63rd International Mathematical Olympiad in Oslo, winning three silver, two bronze medals, and one honorable mention.

Silver was won by Benjamin Mujkic, Jovan Vukovic and Boris Stankovic, bronze by Marko Dimitric and Haris Imamovic, and honorable mention by Emira Ibrahimovic.

The Government of the Canton of Sarajevo and the Ministry of Education of the CS fully financially supported the departure of the students of the Canton of Sarajevo and the mentor Adisa Bolic to this Olympiad.

“We congratulate the Association of Mathematicians of Sarajevo Canton for their dedicated work on the way to this success. It is a privilege to support them. We congratulate the parents, families and teachers, schools and schoolmates of these valuable students,”  said the Minister of Education Naida Hota-Muminovic.

The mathematicians of Bosnia and Herzegovina broke many records this year. Our team has never won more than one silver medal in any year. In the past 29 participations, a total of six silver medals have been won, and this year as many as three. The record of 103 points from 2018 was broken, and a new one of 154 points was set. BiH won the 36th place in the competition out of 104 countries, which is the best ranking in the last 20 years.

In the team standings, Croatia is just ahead of BiH with 157 points, while Serbia is behind with 153 points. Behind are other countries like Switzerland, Argentina, Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Spain, Czech Republic, Sweden, Norway…
