“The problem of solid waste management in the RS has to be solved with the construction of eight regional landfills, of which every one changes 10-12 municipal landfills’’, said expert for environmental protection from the Institute for Civil Engineering from Banja Luka Saša Dunović.

According to him, the regions of Banja Luka and Bijeljina are almost surrounded by projects of regional landfills, and in Zvornik and Prijedor there is ongoing construction of landfills, and there are plans for the building of landfills in Mrkonjić Grad, Doboj, Foča and Gacko.

The Ministry of Physical Planning, Civil Engineering and Ecology of the RS carry out the campaign, which is lasting for one year,, and public discussions until now have been held in Mrkonjić Grad and Doboj.

At a public discussion in Bijeljina, the Director of the Regional Landfill “Eko Dep” Dragiša Marjanović expressed hope that until the end of the year the capacity for waste management will increase from the current 90 tons to 140 tons of waste per day, which would enable better business results of the company.

He recalled that the landfill is designed for 200 tons of waste per day.

At a regional landfill there is waste from Bijeljina, Ugljevik and Lopar, and it is expected to incorporate municipalities Teočak and Čelić in the FBiH.
