Borjana Kristo in Brussels: BiH remains committed to an accelerated European Path

As part of the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the People’s Party (EPP), the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Deputy Chairperson of the HDZ BiH, Borjana Krišto, participated in an extended summit of the EPP Heads of State and Government in Brussels, where current issues at the level of the European Union were discussed.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, introduced the participants to the activities that the European Commission is currently implementing within the framework of the financial framework and the planned measures for the current challenges they face at the global level.

Kristo pointed out that global challenges, conflicts in the Middle East and reflections in the energy sector represent serious topics that require timely responses and elaborate scenarios for the protection of the economy.

Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country that shares a border with the European Union and the Schengen area, clearly shows its strategic goal – full membership in the EU – by seeking common and effective solutions.

During the summit, Krišto met with President von der Leyen, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Andrej Plenković, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy Antonio Tajani, and many other European prime ministers and ministers.

At these meetings, she emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina remains strongly committed to an accelerated European path, and that it wants to follow all aspects of the policies implemented by the European Union.

“I also took the opportunity to reiterate my position on energy issues. Here I am primarily referring to the southern gas interconnection, which is our strategic interest. We are waiting for the creation of assumptions at the level of the Federation of BiH, namely the amendment of the Law on the Southern Gas Interconnection and the sending of a new initiative from the Federation Government to the Council of Ministers, so that we can start negotiations with the Government of the Republic of Croatia and complete the procedure for signing an intergovernmental agreement with the Republic of Croatia as soon as possible,” she said.

Krišto also delegated the issue of professional drivers due to the application of the 90-day directive within 180 days, she said. She also said that she had recently sent a letter to the prime ministers of the countries of the region with the aim of jointly acting and finding solutions that burden Bosnia and Herzegovina and other countries in the region.

At a bilateral meeting with Croatian Prime Minister Plenković, it was agreed that talks would intensify in the coming days. Krišto expressed her belief that Plenković, as a proven friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina, would help find a solution and thanked him for his support.
