Borrell: What is Israel’s Solution? To force all the Palestinians to leave, to kill them?

The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for foreign policy, Josep Borrell, on Monday insisted on a two-state solution, telling Israel that it cannot build peace “only by military means”, reports Anadolu.

EU foreign ministers convened a meeting in Brussels on Monday to discuss Israel’s war on Gaza, where they are expected to meet separately with Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz and Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki.

On the eve of the meeting, Borrell answered questions from journalists and repeated the condemnation of the United Nations for the “unacceptable” Israeli rejection of the call for the establishment of a Palestinian state after the war in Gaza.

“What other solutions do they have in mind? To make all the Palestinians leave? To kill them? 25,000 are already (killed) in Gaza, 70 percent women and children. Of course, the way they are trying to destroy Hamas is not the way they work, because they spread hatred for generations. We bear in mind what Hamas is, what Hamas has done, and we certainly reject and condemn it. But peace and stability cannot be built by military means alone, nor by this particular way of using military means.” , Borrell said.

He added that the humanitarian situation in Gaza could not be worse and that there are no words to describe the situation on the ground.

“And every day there are a large number of civilians killed. Many ministers have said that there are ‘too many’. Well, the question is: how much is ‘too many’? What does ‘too many’ mean? Is 25,000 people too many? How much will this last? That’s what the ministers will be talking about today, so it’s a very important meeting. I’m happy that I was able to invite them and get them to come,” Borrell said.

He added that at today’s meeting he will present a comprehensive approach and discuss the two-state solution.

“I think we have to stop talking about the ‘peace’ process and start talking more concretely about the ‘two-state solution’ process,” said the European official.
