The commemoration of the most tragic day in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the day of remembrance of the genocide in Srebrenica on July 11, is approaching. On this occasion, a man from Srebrenica, who lost his father and grandfather in that city, decided to pay tribute and commemorate July 11 in a special way this year.
Mirza Alić, born in 1993, is the son and grandson of people who died in the genocide in Srebrenica. In 2001, together with his mother and sister, he left his homeland and moved to Switzerland, where he still lives. Just a few years ago, the buried remains of his relatives were found, among which were two relatives.
He came to every burial, and this year he decided to mark the Remembrance Day of the genocide in Srebrenica in a special way. He decided to climb Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe, where he will place the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the symbol of Srebrenica, the Srebrenica flower in honor of the victims who were killed in the genocide.
“This has been my plan for a long time, so I decided that when I go, I will go with our flag and the symbol of Srebrenica. I want to pay tribute to all the victims of the war in our homeland,” Alić told Klix.ba.
He said that he wants to make it known that what happened in Srebrenica must never be forgotten and that he is a proud Bosnian, even though he has lived outside his homeland for years.
“My goal is to spread awareness of the events that happened to us. In Geneva, Switzerland, every year we have gatherings and commemorations of the victims of the genocide. Each of our Bosnian congregations in this country tries to make us known and never forget who we are. and where we came from and what kind of story we have,” he said, Klix.ba reports.
