Bosnian Filmmaker Jasmila Zbanic directed One Episode of ‘The Last of Us’

The screenwriters of the series “The Last Of Us” Craig Mazon and Neil Druckmann yesterday in the official podcast of the series also discussed Jasmila Žbanić, the Bosnian director, who directed one of the episodes of this series.

As is well known, Jasmila Žbanić directed the sixth episode of the series “The Last Of Us”, which was released yesterday in the USA, and tonight at 20:00 it was shown in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the HBO channel.

The plot of the episode called “Kin” was the subject of a new podcast in which these famous screenwriters talked, and at one point they also mentioned the director from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“We should mention that this episode was directed by Jasmila Žbanić, who is a brilliant Bosnian filmmaker. She made that wonderful film ‘Quo Vadis Aida’. Jasmila grew up in Sarajevo in the middle of the war. When we talked about her directing the episode, I said ‘ Look, we have those two episodes where Kansas City is torn apart by war. It’s a divided city and it’s escalated into a civil war. Who would know that better than you,'” stated one of the screenwriters.

He thought that Jasmila Žbanić would agree to work with what she knows well, which is certainly the subject of war, but she did not agree to it. She asked to direct the sixth episode in which she wanted to show that there are better ways to survive than violence.

“And she said ‘I’m not interested. I want to do this episode. ‘Cause what she was interested in was showing a society that actually worked. So the tour where Maria takes Joel and Elli and shows them the place and Elli says ‘F*ck, this place actually works’ is what really attracted Jasmila – the idea that you can still have a society that works”, concluded one of the screenwriters, Klix.ba reports.
