In the special program, Teleton, Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) and Pomozi.ba collected aid for the victims of the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria at the beginning of February with a phone call where public figures from social and political life participated.
The program lasted three hours, nearly 80.000 calls were made, and nearly 300.000 BAM was collected.
“It is a great honor and pleasure that the Public RTV Service joined the aid action and invited us. This is the most successful action behind Pomozi.ba,” said the representative of the humanitarian organization, Maja Arslanagic Hrbat.
General Director of BHRT Belmin Karamehmedovic said that this is not the first time that BHRT has done such projects, and that it is a gesture of solidarity for people who lost everything in a few minutes, as well as the fact that even the small country of BiH stands behind them.
“The idea was that after the first wave of aid from BiH, which was significant, from aid teams and everything else that is needed, we would continue to help continuously. There is no doubt that they will need help for a long time,” Karamehmedovic assessed, adding that the goal was, above all, to make a gesture so that people see that they are not alone, as well as to collect concrete help with partners from the organization Pomozi.ba.
One of the guests of the program was the member of the BiH Presidency Zeljko Komsic, who thanked BHRT and Pomozi.ba for this action and said:
“Yesterday you had the opportunity to watch the great floods in Turkey and it is an ongoing tragedy. The Turkish president and people from the government are grateful to us for the help that BiH sent them and they say that it is amazing that such a small country can do something that is this amazing. We have no intention of stopping, we have empathy. It’s good and I am grateful to you for including Syria. There is a big problem with the regime and everything that is happening there. People are suffering there, just like in Turkey, and they need help,” said Komsic, N1 reports.
