Breathtaking: Aurora Borealis visible from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Aurora borealis was recorded over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday evening in Rudice near Novi Grad.

Nedim Sladić, the most famous BiH meteorologist explained on social networks what color the aurora borealis is and why the one seen over Bosnia and Herzegovina is red.

“Observed from the area closer to the Earth’s poles, the aurora is mostly yellow-green, and from lower latitudes, red. The difference in color occurs due to different air densities at different heights in the atmosphere. At high altitudes, where the atmosphere is thin, collisions between air molecules are rare and oxygen emits red light two minutes after being excited. Until today, I thought that Aurora was impossible to see in our country. It seems that it is still possible”, Sladić wrote.
