On Tuesday 14 May, in a Transfer of Authority ceremony held at Camp Butmir, Sarajevo, Brigadier General Gábor Horváth relinquished his position of EUFOR Chief of Staff (COS) to his successor, Brigadier General László Szabó.

Addressing the parade, Brigadier General Gábor Horváth said:

“It has been a fantastic tour of exploration, a huge amount of experience, a great deal of work, and a lot of friendship, camaraderie and joy at the same time to me”.

COMEUFOR, Major General Martin Dorfer commended Brigadier General Horváth for his 13 months of duty, saying: “The role of the Chief of Staff is to bring together diverse elements and people and to create a synergy within the staff of the Headquarters. Brigadier General Horváth has achieved this through his leadership, determination and personal example”.

The new Chief of Staff, Brigadier General László Szabó, said:

“I am looking forward to working with all of you in this multinational environment and the continued success of Operation ALTHEA. I strongly believe that we are able to fulfill our tasks successfully with collective co-operation”.

The position of EUFOR COS is always held by a Hungarian Brigadier General; EUFOR COS is primarily tasked with leading the staff of EUFOR, but also to deputise for COMEUFOR when required.
