Britain today imposed sanctions on illegal Israeli settlers, including three individuals, two illegal suburbs and two organisations that support violence against Palestinians in the West Bank. London also suspended negotiations on a free trade agreement with Israel.
“Israel’s actions are morally unjustifiable, completely disproportionate. Regardless of what Israel claims, this is no way to bring hostages home,” said British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy.
Israel condemned the British government’s decision to suspend negotiations on a free trade agreement and impose sanctions on illegal settlers for violence against Palestinians.
“Even before today’s announcement, negotiations on a free trade agreement had not progressed at all under the current British government,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry called the UK sanctions “unjustified and regrettable.”
“The British mandate ended exactly 77 years ago,” it said in a statement.
