People carry sandbags near a flooded boulevard on the Danube River as many parts of central Europe are flooded following heavy rains in Budapest, Hungary.

Preparedness for flood protection has been raised to the highest, third level.

Due to the dangerous cyclone and very rainy weather throughout the country, meteorological and other monitoring services announce the possibility of a significant rise in the water level of the Danube.

The peak of the water wave is expected in the city of Gyor on Thursday in the evening, then on Friday in Vac, and in Budapest on the afternoon of September 21. In these conditions, disruptions to vehicle traffic and public transport are also possible.

At least 20 people died, and thousands of people were evacuated due to floods caused by heavy rains and storms in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Parts of Eastern and Central Europe are struggling with storm “Boris”.

So far, tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes across Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia, while the number of victims has risen to 20 – seven in Romania, five each in Poland and Austria, and three in the Czech Republic.
