Two young men were arrested for planning an attack on one of Taylor Swift’s concerts in Vienna. One of them is an Austrian originally from North Macedonia.
The police operation in Ternitz has expanded into the authorities’ massive terrorism investigation. The radical duo, who a few weeks ago pledged loyalty to the terrorist organization ISIL and its leader, were allegedly planning a terrorist attack in the greater Vienna area.
Most likely at one of the three Taylor Swift concerts with tens of thousands of fans at Ernst Happel Stadium. A 19-year-old Austrian with North Macedonian roots was arrested in Ternitz, and a 17-year-old in Vienna.
Details about the younger suspect are not known at this time. However, according to the authorities, one thing is certain: they were preparing for a terrorist attack, and the target was events in the greater Vienna area – specifically, one of the Taylor Swift concerts was the focus.
During the search of the house in Ternitz, “chemical substances” were also found, which are being analyzed by experts. Allegedly, the 19-year-old man worked for a chemical company from where he stole chemicals.
As a reminder, all three Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna were canceled after threats of attack.
Taylor was scheduled to perform on August 8, 9 and 10 at Ernst Happel Stadium. The organizers told the fans that the money for the tickets will be returned to them in the next 10 working days.
Vienna police chief Gerhard Purstl said they expected approximately 65,000 people to attend each of her concerts. They also expected around 22,000 fans outside the stadium, Klix.ba writes.
