An Olympics project was held at University Burch in Sarajevo from 5-6 April for students in high schools in BiH. Today at the university there are 170 projects on display from four categories: engineering, environment, web design and ”I have an idea”.
296 students from Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, Bihać, Zenica, Zavidovići and other cities in BiH participated. The jury assesses the projects, and students compete for valuable cash prizes, as well as stipends to study at Burch.
A science center was also opened at Burch University today, which was attended by the Canton Sarajevo Minister of Education, Science and Youth Damir Marjanović, Associate Expert for Higher Education in the Federal Ministry of Education Zlatan Buljko, Pro-Rector of Burch University Teoman Duman, university officials, participants at the Olympics, directors of schools and a number of other guests.
Minister Marjanović said that young people have to examine all the possibilities that science provides: ”This is a very good form of cooperation between academia and highs chools. In this way, students in high school have a chance to present their projects and to show what they have to offer. They have a chance to become familiar with university life. These types of things have to be supported and I hope that there will be more of these Olympics”, said Marjanović.
”The goal of this project is to give a chance to every student in this countri to apply. Today we will present stipends to the most talented students. We really work hard to lend support to all students and students in BiH that wish to work”, explained Duman.
The representative from the high school of metalworks vocation Ejub Mršo explained the project that was presented to Fena Agency: ”We have made a proejct of the oil cooling computers. The purpose of this project is to ensure a longer life span of computer components, to achive better cooling and better performance of computers. We plan to patent the project and present it at the Festival at Goražde”, said Mršo.
Arslan Hajdarević and Kerem Emre Karli from Sarajevo College made a 3D printer.
”3D printers are machines that melt plastic and make 3D models. First a model is made on the computer, which is sent to software that we made and which tells the printer what to do. Since we are in our first year of high school, we wanted to prove ourselves, so we ventured on to this big step”, said Hajdarević.
At Burch Olympics the jury will announce the winners today and will give out awards and stipends to study at Burch University.
