The Sarajevo Canton (CS) will be fully covered by video surveillance by the end of 2020, which will significantly increase the efficiency and effectiveness of police work, newly elected Sarajevo Police Commissioner Nusret Selimovic confirmed to Klix.ba news portal.

Selimovic emphasized the equipping of information and communication technologies and modernization of existing equipment as its priorities.

“Our priority is to modernize and adequately equip information and communication technologies wherever possible. This would certainly significantly increase the efficiency and effectiveness of police work,” Selimovic said, adding that this would speed up work processes.

Selimovic added that CS Government has allocated close to five million BAM for the first phase of a project to cover the entire area of Sarajevo Canton with video surveillance system.

Selimovic added that the complete project should cost just over eight million BAM and that it should be completed by the end of next year.

The video surveillance system will be broad-based and will aim at preventing traffic violations, maintaining security at public rallies, but also preventing and detecting crime, or perpetrators of crimes.

It is also planned to equip all vehicles of the Police Directorate with tablets or laptops connected to a unique system whose data police officers would have access to.
