The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina is hosting a three-day study visit by representatives of the Central Election Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Representatives of the State Electoral Commission of the Republic of Croatia also participate in the study visit.

Representatives of the Parliament of Ukraine, i.e. the Parliamentary Committee for State Power, Local Self-Government, Regional and Urban Development, will join the meetings online, so the study visit itself is organized in a hybrid format (live and online).

The main purpose of the study visit is a deeper study of the experience of Bosnia and Herzegovina regarding the organization and implementation of the first post-war elections in 1996, as well as the establishment of the current legal framework and practice of conducting elections, which could be useful for the elaboration of solutions to the war challenges in the electoral area with which the Ukrainian authorities face and will face.

The Council of Europe is implementing an electoral cooperation project on the topic “Support for democratic post-war elections in Ukraine”, and the project is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine 2023-2026 “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction”.

Within the framework of the Project, the Council of Europe provides support to the Ukrainian authorities and civil society for the post-war elections, which will be held in accordance with European electoral standards, with due assurance of the electoral rights of Ukrainian citizens inside and outside of Ukraine.
