After the mandate of the president of the entity Republika Srpska (RS) expired, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) should call early elections within 90 days from the date of the mandate’s expiration in accordance with the constitution and the law.

According to Article 14.3 of the Election Law of BiH, the CEC will call early elections if an elected body is dissolved, or if its mandate expires in accordance with the constitution and the law.

“The CEC of BiH makes the decision on calling early elections, by which the exact date of the elections is determined. They will be held within 90 days from the date of the dissolution of the elected body or the expiration of the mandate. From the day of calling the early elections until the day of holding the elections, no less than 30 and no more than 90 days may pass,” the CEC of BiH announced.

After the decision of the Court of BiH rejecting the appeal of Milorad Dodik and the expiration of his mandate as president of RS, the CEC will schedule a session at which it will consider the decision on calling early elections and the planned budget for holding those elections.
