The King of the Belgians – Philippe of Belgium hosted the Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)Denis Becirovic in an audience as part of his official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium. This is the first meeting of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency with King Philippe, who assumed the throne in July 2013, Becirovic‘s office announced.

During a cordial conversation that took place yesterday in the royal palace in Brussels, at the very beginning, Becirovicexpressed his satisfaction that this visit took place on the eve of the celebration of the thirty years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between BiH and the Kingdom of Belgium, as well as four days after the decision of the European Council on the opening of the European Union (EU) negotiations with BiH.

It was assessed that there are excellent diplomatic and political relations between the two countries, characterized by a high degree of understanding and mutual respect. In this context, the decision of the Kingdom of Belgium to open an Embassy in Sarajevo was welcomed, especially in the context of important geostrategic events on the European continent. Becirovicpointed out that this will contribute to the additional strengthening of relations between the two countries on the political and economic level.

Chairman Becirovic said that BiH extremely appreciates the principled support of the Kingdom of Belgium for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of BiH. He thanked King Philippe for the support that the Kingdom of Belgium provides to BiH on the path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which was also confirmed by the positive decision of the European Council on the opening of EU negotiations with BiH.

Becirovic emphasized the importance of Belgium’s six-month presidency of the EU Council and thanked the Kingdom of Belgium for its activities in the first three months of the presidency.

He invited King Philippe to visit BiH again and emphasized that it would be an honor for all citizens and peoples in our country to once again show hospitality to the King of Belgium.

King Philippe said that he has special feelings for BiH and that he fondly remembers his visits to Sarajevo, Tuzla, Mostar, and Medjugorje. He pointed out that he carefully follows the events in BiH and the entire region, and that he supports the European perspective of BiH, according to the statement.
