SONY DSCChairman of the BiH Council of Ministers Vjekoslav Bevanda received in Sarajevo today a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), led by the President of EBRD Suma Chakrabarti.

Bevanda and Chakrabarti discussed the draft of a new strategy of EBRD, current political issues with a reflection on economic developments in BIH, and implementation of projects of EBRD for the Western Balkans.

Bevanda expressed satisfaction with the cooperation of EBRD, which is one of the biggest institutional investors in BiH.

He noted that in the period from 1996 until today, several successful projects in all areas have been established, and the most important ones were realized in the areas of energy, transport and finance.

He gave strong support to the draft strategy of EBRD, as well as the aims that the bank will focus on in the coming period.

“We support the restructuring and expansion of the local sector, promotion of efficient and sustainable use of resources, as well as establishing strong ties with wider regional markets. In particular, we are pleased that the new strategy gives more importance in providing a better business environment for the development of the private sector’’, said Bevanda.

President Chakrabarti praised the strong cooperation of BIH and EBRD and said that last year investments in the amount of 125 million euros were made.

He said that in the next period the investment climate in BiH should be improved, and announced an investment conference at the beginning of next year.

Bevanda said that in the coming period he expects support to make the necessary reforms and economic progress, and that the strategic commitment of BIH would create a more favorable business environment for the realization of direct foreign investment.

The BiH Minister of Finance and Treasury Nikola Špirić attended the meeting with the delegation of EBRD, announced the BiH Council of Ministers.
