At the beginning of the meeting, Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović expressed satisfaction with the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania Kęstutis Budrys, saying that the visit is a contribution to the continuity of good and friendly relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Lithuania.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992, the cooperation between the two countries has been very good, and the intensification in recent years has been especially noticeable.
The Republic of Lithuania, which is a member of the EU and NATO alliance, is a very important country in the context of cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the strategic foreign policy goals of joining the EU and NATO, said the Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović.
The Chairman of the BiH Presidency expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Lithuania for its support and assistance, emphasizing the importance of co-sponsoring the Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, voted at the UN General Assembly.
Speaking about European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency said that BiH’s foreign policy is aligned with the Common Foreign and Security Policy of the EU, and that more concrete cooperation between the two countries is expected with the Republic of Lithuania taking over the presidency of the EU from January 1, 2027.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania expressed his support for the security and stability of this region and the determination of the Republic of Lithuania to strengthen engagement in bilateral cooperation with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As he said, one of the priorities of the EU presidency will be EU enlargement.
They discussed the need to improve overall bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Lithuania, with emphasis on foreign trade and economic relations.
