Participants of tonight’s protests in front of the Parliament of Montenegro demolished the protective fence, after which the police threw tear gas.

Those gathered chanted “Treason, treason” and insulted Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Minister Filip Adžić, and they previously said that the amendments to the Law on the President are intended to collapse the constitutional order, which, they say, they will not allow.

The Parliament of Montenegro adopted today for the second time amendments to the Law on the President. 41 MPs voted for the adoption of that act.
With these changes, the Government can be elected without the consent of the President.

The United States of America (USA) called for an immediate return to peaceful and constructive discourse, the American embassy announced, after today’s events in front of the Parliament of Montenegro.

Tonight, the parliament, with the votes of the parliamentary majority, re-adopted the amendments to the Law on the President, after which the participants of the protest in front of the parliament demolished the protective fence, so the police used tear gas, RTCG reported.
“We invite all Montenegrin leaders and citizens to continue discussions and find peaceful solutions to political problems,” the US Embassy in Podgorica announced.

Ambassador Judy Rising Reinke also spoke.

“Friends of Montenegro, please focus on what matters, moving this country forward for the welfare, safety and well-being of all Montenegrin citizens,” she said on Twitter.
