Children in Fojnica clean Football Fields with their own Hands

FojnicaFrequent image that can be seen in Bosnia and Herzegovina are abandoned and neglected sport fields. Enthusiasts such as Husnija Čohadžić and children of Fojnica repair this image of the country’s relation towards sport.

A young man from Fojnica has been dealing with certainly a unique hobby in this country for a while now – he repairs the destroyed local sport fields. Čohadžić revealed the reasons why he does this unusual work which gathers young people and athletes in this town in the heart of Bosnia.

“Since I play football as recreation, I has a desire to organize terms with my friends so we could play futsal every day. Because of my absence, I did not know anything about the condition of sport infrastructure in Fojnica. After I found out that infrastructure is not in an envious condition (no football goals, high grass, poor condition of concrete, destroyed spotlights and protective fence). That is how I got the idea to raise some funds for the most basic things, the goals,” Čohadžić explained.

Čohadžić self-initiatively raised funds from sponsors, local businessmen who decided to support him. Funds for goals were raised in a very short time. The Municipality hired the Public Utility Enterprise Fojnica and Elektroprivreda Fojnica to complete the repair of all damages within the sport facilities.

“Regarding my way of work, every action and proposal that I have about the repair and reconstruction of the sport fields I suggest to the supervisor from the Municipality, who conveys the message to the Mayor of the Fojnica Municipality. On this occasion, I would like to thank the sponsors and the Municipality of Fojnica who had understanding for this problem,” Čohadžić said.

People in this team are students of elementary and high school in Fojnica. If it were not for their enthusiasm and volunteer work, Čohadžić claims, this action would be impracticable.

Three sport fields were reconstructed so far, including a futsal field where football is played every day. Works were also conducted on the tennis court and futsal court which is in a very bad condition. The team is currently in contact with a potential investor who is ready to invest certain financial means in order to put it into function of social benefit and thus make it self-sustainable. Since the third field is in poor shape, the idea is to make a basketball court there and move futsal to another place, in a sports complex. This idea is currently under consideration.

“The only costs so far were the goals for the football field which cost 600 BAM. It takes almost 10.000 BAM to put the tennis court into function, and there is a potential investor who would invest funds in the reconstruction of the tennis court. Other costs of reconstruction of sport fields are on the Municipality of Fojnica, in cooperation with FC Fojnica, JKP Fojnica and Elektroprivreda Fojnica, Čohadžić said.
