candlesCitizens of B&H expressed their solidarity with migrants and compassion for those who lost their lives while escaping from their countries from wars, disasters and existential problems by lighting candles on one of the central squares in Sarajevo.

The campaign in Sarajevo and two other B&H cities, Banja Luka and Mostar, was organized on the International Migrants Day, by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the title “Light a candle”.

People from all over the world are expressing their compassion in a similar way with those who are forced to escape from their homes and families of the victims.

“There is more than a billion migrants in the world. Since the beginning of 2015, more than 3,500 of them have lost their lives,” said project manager of IOM Andrea Dabizzi.

She emphasized that the people from B&H can understand very well the torment of similar sufferers since they have experienced the horrors of war and escaping from their homes in the recent past.
