vijecnicaAt the map of destinations the tourists are visiting during their stay in Sarajevo, the City Hall has its place. This master piece dating from the Austro-Hungarian period, built in the Moorish Revival style, has a rich history and leaves everyone breathless. The intensity of colours and mosaics on the wall, dozens of arches, auditorium covered with a glass mosaic and the central stone stairs are the things that make this edifice one of the most beautiful ones at the Balkans.

Tarik Dautović from the town administration service and one of the guides at the City Hall said that the tourist’s visits were numerous and that they are satisfied although there’s a bit less visits now because the tourist season is over.

“However, there are still some group of tourists coming to the City Hall, especially elementary and secondary schools of the Canton of Sarajevo, as well as from other cantons. I have to remind that we had Open Doors Day right after the Hall’s opening, with free entrance, when 4 000 citizens visited the Hall.” – pointed out Dautović.

Dautović also said that there are two guides at the tourist’s service in the Hall, in fact two curators in charge of presenting to them the rich history and the new period of the renewal of the Hall.

“The tourists are really fascinated by the things they see, they even say that they never saw such a beautiful edifice in some other European cities. They are usually most interested in the architecture and drawings in the Hall. They want to know if it’s handmade and what is the style, who and how did the works etc. When we reply to them that everything was done by local artists and companies, they are even more impressed.” – said Dautović.

The visitors have the chance not only to see the auditorium but the solemn and the council hall too.

Since august 17th, the entrance is charged 2 BAM while it’s free for children under age of 15. The visiting period is from 10:00 to 17:00 o’clock every day of the week and weekends.
