Classes in the Second Semester began as planned in Canton Sarajevo

In the Sarajevo Canton, classes in the second semester began as planned on February 1, in the way that the first semester ended. From February 8, students of the 9th grade of primary schools and the 3rd three-year and 4th four-year high schools in the Sarajevo Canton will return to school, said the Minister of Education of the KS Naida Hota-Muminovic.

She pointed out that classes will be conducted in strict compliance with epidemiological measures.

“The instructions for teaching have been revised, with the input of the Association of Parents of CS, and we have improved it. All instructions are subject tothe constant change in accordance with the epidemiological situation. We needed to refine the instructions we issued before the start of classes in the second semester because there were some changes at the level of the Federal Crisis Staff, and through cooperation with the CS Crisis Staff, the CS Ministry of Health and what we had as input from our parents. Associations of parents of CS, from the school, we have refined these instructions and adapted them even better. We have long ago announced that all these instructions are subject to constant changes as the epidemiological situation changes, so we will change and improve our decisions, our instructions and all the guidelines we issue to schools, “said Hota-Muminovic.

CS Minister of Health Haris Vranic said that he would monitor the epidemiological situation in CS and adjust to measures in accordance with it. “We will monitor the epidemiological situation in CS and if there is a possible increase in the number of newly discovered positives on Covid-19, we will adjust the new measures,” Vranic emphasized.

According to him, one of the most common questions addressed to the Ministry of Health was whether children should wear masks from the age of six. “We are of the opinion and we have made such a decision, referring to European and American standards of epidemiological protection of students in schools, that it is obligatory to wear masks during their stay in school premises,” said Vranic.

He added that quick tests have been prepared, and an epidemiological survey of teaching staff will be conducted before classes begin. “All those who have some signs of Covid are obliged both legally and morally to report it in order to test potential positive patients, and in order to exclude the possibility that one of the teachers would spread the infection,” said Vranic, BHRT writes.

The Ministry of Education of the Canton Sarajevo (CS) sent a notice to primary and secondary schools about the manner of teaching in the new school year, and the instructions also state that children in primary and secondary schools must wear masks.

According to the new rules, the social distance is increased from 1.5 meters to 2 meters, and the distance between the students’ seats must be at least 2 meters, Klix.ba writes.

In primary and secondary schools, it is mandatory to wear protective masks over the mouth and nose to ensure the protection of the respiratory system indoors and outdoors, while respecting a distance of at least 2 meters.

Children under the age of six make an exception, as well as people who have breathing problems due to chronic diseases or who cannot remove the mask without the help of another person, such as people with intellectual disabilities or developmental disabilities and people with hearing damage.

In case that pupils are not able to attend schooling due to health reasons, their parents are obliged to submit a medical justification which will explain the reason for the pupil’s absence from school. Parents who do not want their children to attend the regular teaching process due to chronic diseases of pupils, members of the joint household, or belonging to a risk group, have this right and must justify the reason for attending online classes with a statement to the class teacher.

The school, more precisely the teacher has the option in cases when it is assessed that he can not achieve or can hardly achieve the principle of objectivity in written tests in the implementation of teaching according to the online model, organize and implement a written test for all pupils in the school classroom, with parent notice and assessment of the competent school service.
