The Czech Republic became the main export market for arms and ammunition from Bosnia and Herzegovina in the first two months of 2026, with exports totaling 18.5 million BAM.
The former leader, the United States, has dropped to the margins with only 622,000 BAM in imports. The reason for the drastic decline is the additional tariffs of 30% that the U.S. introduced in mid-2024, which effectively halted shipments to the market.
Although final destinations are not made public, estimates indicate that a significant portion of the goods ends up in Ukraine. The role of main intermediaries, previously held by American companies, has now been taken over by Czech companies.
The rise of the Czech Republic is tied to the strengthening of its defense industry, led by the Czechoslovak Group. This group is aggressively expanding its business operations and connecting regional manufacturers with global buyers.
Total exports of arms and ammunition reached 39 million BAM, marking a 60% decrease compared to the same period last year.
Experts emphasize that fluctuations in the defense industry are common due to the dynamics of large-scale deliveries, Biznisinfo.ba reports.
In addition to arms, Bosnia and Herzegovina also recorded significant exports of explosives and pyrotechnic products worth 16.2 million BAM. The largest buyers in this segment are Turkey (4.3 million BAM) and Serbia (2.3 million BAM), eKapija writes.
