The bodies of five mountaineers from Zenica, who lost their lives while climbing Mount Elbrus in the Russian Federation on July 25 of this year, were finally delivered to Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday afternoon, and tomorrow a commemoration will be held for them and a joint funeral will be held and the burial will take place at the “Prašnice” cemetery in Zenica.

Spouses Alma and Denis Okanović, Dr. Meliha Čaušević, doctor of the Zenica Cantonal Hospital, Nermin Talam and Almir Krivdić lost their lives, while Haris Adilović and Kemal Vidimlić, who returned to Zenica at the beginning of this month, survived.

“The commemoration of our tragically deceased friends will be held at the Bosnian National Theater in Zenica, starting at 3 p.m., and the collective final farewell and burial at the City Cemetery “Prašnice”. After Asr prayer, the funeral will be held in front of the Čaršijska mosque, where their bodies will be brought from Žepče, after they were brought yesterday by the funeral company’s car from Belgrade. The funeral is expected to be attended by a large number of people from public life, including the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Nermin Nikšća,” said the president of the Mountain Rescue Service – Zenica Station, Zenica lawyer Dino Ahmetović.

Spouses Okanović, as well as survivors Adilović and Vidimlić, were members of this station of the GSS, but also members of the Mountaineering Society “Vedro” from Zenica, whose members were also Čaušević, Talam and Krivdić.

As it was confirmed to Fena, the funeral service will be led by Mufti Hafiz Mevludin Efendija Dizdarević of Zenica after Asr prayer (4:44 p.m.) on the plateau in front of the Islamic Center “Sultan Ahmed” and the Sultan Ahmed-Čaršija Mosque in that city.

The mayor of Zenica, Fuad Kasumović, issued an order declaring August 18, 2026, the day of the mountaineer’s burial, as the Day of Mourning in the City of Zenica, while the Day of Mourning in FBiH was declared on July 28.
