In a country where even police officers end up behind bars and when we beat the inglorious results of the global peace index statistics, do we even need warnings that we are the least safe country to live in?
During this time, domestic leaders engage in inflammatory rhetoric and who will attract more attention in the divisions. Where is the exit? How to become part of the European family? Do the politicians even care about providing us with a ticket to enter that society, or do they favor the current climate of disorder?
Political instability, first of all, and then lack of security, discrimination, crime rate, bad relations with neighboring countries and many other terms that describe the situation in our country are not unknown. To what extent is society, if not a divided government, aware of these problems, who is the main culprit and where is a possible solution for a safer Bosnia and Herzegovina? Why do we occupy infamous places on international reference sites?
“In addition to our politicians, especially these disorienting policies that try to destabilize Bosnia and Herzegovina on a daily basis, the international community also bears responsibility for this state of affairs”, believes Armin Krzalic, professor at the Faculty of Criminology, UNSA.
Thus, domestic leaders have divided the international community with constant divisions. Instead of solving the accumulated internal issues, our leaders create polarization on the international level as well, aligning themselves with certain sides.
“Croatian politics fails to recognize situations in which attempts are being made to intensify and deepen the conflict between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Zagreb and Sarajevo, all to the detriment of the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region. In a way, Croatia allowed itself to be drawn into the spatial interests of the Vucic regime and the interests of Russia,” political analyst Davor Gjenero assesses.
Russian influence, as well as the influence of neighboring countries for the sake of personal interests, reflects on the already weakened institutional capacities, and therefore on the reforms that await us, on which domestic politicians have not been able to agree for a long time. In this connection, the economy, the economy and all other social aspects suffer, and space is created for the strengthening of ethnic divisions and other forms of discrimination.
“It is very important to seriously approach the reforms in terms of NATO integration, but also EU integration, to fulfill basic requirements and priorities, such as the priorities of the European Commission”, points out political scientist Minel Abaz.
Foreign officials have warned about this before. The salvation for Bosnia and Herzegovina, they say, lies in joining the European Union and the NATO alliance.
“NATO will continue to promote stability, security and cooperation in the region through our partnership with Bosnia and Herzegovina, the efforts of our headquarters in Sarajevo, our support for the EUFOR ALTHEA operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as part of the Berlin Plus arrangement,” he said. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“The risk in the Western Balkans still exists and the EU must speed up the procedures for the admission of the countries of this region. I am trying to do everything in my power to convince the EU and the West to accept Bosnia and Herzegovina into the EU according to a quick procedure, and if possible into NATO,” said President of Slovenia Borut Pahor.
There are many obligations that our country still needs to implement in order to become a safer place to live. What is most controversial is the division of society. The solution, say local experts, is to join the Euro-Atlantic integrations, which everyone is urging us to do.
