deathThe Steering Board (SB) of the Bar Association of the Federation of BiH once again called the competent state bodies of BiH and FBiH to take all legal actions to bring those responsible for brutal murder of Jasmina Koričić, a lawyer from Bihać, to justice.

”Considering the fact that apart from murder of lawyer Jasmina Koričić, there was also an attack on property and office of lawyer Faruk Balijagić from Tuzla, SB assessed it is necessary to launch an initiative in competent ministries of justice and amend criminal code of FBiH and BiH in order to fully protect the judges, prosecutors and lawyers from attack on life and body and their property,” it was emphasized today at a press conference in Sarajevo by President of the SB of the Bar Association of FBiH, lawyer Anto Petrušić.

Summarizing assessments and conclusions of the extraordinary session of SB of the Bar Association of FBiH, Petrušić assessed it is concerning that the competent bodies are not showing enough interest in solving these problems.

President of the Bar Association of FBiH, lawyer Branko Marić and doyen of practice of law in BiH and a longtime president of the Bar Association, lawyer Žarko Bulić and member of SB, lawyer from Bihać Omer Abdagić also condemned these attacks against lawyers of FBiH.

They assessed that these tragic events warn that it is high time to take urgent steps in bringing back dignity to lawyer profession and stop further erosion of social moral.

”Fact is that we are an inevitable part of judicial mechanism and the ideal of justice cannot be achieved without us,” stated members of the SB of the Bar Association of FBiH, calling authorities to secure the same treatment for them like the one for judges and prosecutors in judicial chain.

It was stated that SB accepted at the extraordinary session the initiative to schedule and hold extraordinary assemblies of regional bar associations and the Federation Bar Association on the occasion of tragic events which carry far-reaching consequences for the practice of law and lawyers.
