Marko Kubatlija, Acting Director of the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FIPA BiH), held a meeting with representatives of the Hungarian company Lugos Renewables.

Based on the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Export Promotion Agency HEPA, FIPA has provided support to Lugos Renewables, which is investing in the construction of the largest solar park in the Balkans in Trebinje.

The project involves collaboration between the Hungarian company Lugos Renewables and the Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska (ERS) through a joint venture, and the new 73 MWp solar power plant is being built in Trebinje, near the borders of Montenegro and Croatia, representing the second phase of the overall project.

The first phase is already under construction

The first phase is already underway with the construction of substations and power lines along with a 73 MWp solar power plant, and with the addition of the new solar power plant, the development of the complex will provide a capacity of 146 MWp (DC) of solar energy, making it the largest solar power plant in the Balkan region according to current data.

This will create new jobs and, more importantly, have a significant impact on the economic growth of the region and environmental protection by increasing the share of green energy in the overall energy production.

Last year, Lugos Renewables took over the majority ownership of Solar Power Plant Trebinje 1 after the Competition Council of BiH gave the green light for this acquisition. The total value of the project is more than 50 million euros and will be the largest in BiH.

Kubatlija will continue to provide support to all investors interested in investing in BiH.

“In addition to investment projects that create new jobs and bring higher added value, it is extremely important for us to attract and realize investments that bring new technologies, invest in research and development, introduce a greater number of innovative products and services, and invest in employee education,” stated FIPA.
