Fighting continued overnight between Israel and Hamas in Gaza despite a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire.

Eyewitnesses said that Israeli warplanes bombed the southern city of Rafah last night, while fierce fighting was taking place around hospitals in the cities of Khan Yunis and Gaza, the BBC reported.

Warning sirens also sounded in Israeli cities near the border with Gaza.

Yesterday, the UN Security Council adopted the first resolution demanding an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, after more than five months of war between Israel and Hamas.
